History
In 1978 the “Institut für Integrationsforschung” (today: The Institute for European Integration) was founded. It became part of the Europa-Kolleg and an academic institution at the University of Hamburg. Thereby the organizational framework for the further development of research expertise was created.
Education
With the Institute for European Integration and two Master Programmes, the Europa-Kolleg Hamburg offers an excellent platform for research, teaching and learning in the area of European studies. Renowned lecturers, the specialised library for European studies, the integrated residential area, important projects, events and publications provide a stimulating environment for students and researchers from around the world who have the highest expectations in the area of European integration.

Housing services
We offer 54 single apartments, 5 double apartments and 8 rooms. All accommodation is completely furnished and includes internet access. Kitchen utensils and appliances are available and bed linen will be provided.
All apartments are equipped with a shower / WC and a pantry kitchen; the double apartments have a shower / WC and a separate kitchen. The rooms in the half-basement do not have their own bathroom, but have a washbasin and cooking facilities. A shower bath and toilet can be found in the same corridor. The accommodation is cleaned once a month after notification by the cleaners employed by the Europa-Kolleg.
Library services
The reference library contains approximatley 30,000 books and 50 journals in the fields of law, economics and politics under the aspect of European integration.The books which have been acquired since 2004 can be found in the Campus-Katalog of the University of Hamburg. Older titles are researchable in the internal database LARS.
Campus life
The Europa-Kolleg Hamburg is not only a place for Higher learning and research, but also a comfortable place to live. The Campus is located in the beautiful and green neighborhood of Groß-Flottbek. The “Elbstrand”, known as the riverside beach of the Elbe, the Hafen-City, and the downtown area are well within reach. The University of Hamburg, along with its research facilities, is accessible through the city metro and transport system. Shopping possibilities are likewise near the campus and within reach.
The programme is structured into modules according to the requirements of the Bologna Process. After positive evaluation and decision of the accreditation commission of the accreditation agency AQAS the programme has been accredited.
