About

For the professional and those interested in leadership roles or working in a multicultural setting the Cultural Anthropology and Diversity Skills for Professionals programme at The International ARLT Foundation will provide a useful lens with which to view behaviour. Todays anthropologists do not just work in exotic areas, they work in practically every setting and environment imaginable.

Overview

The Cultural Anthropology and Diversity Skills for Professionals course at The International ARLT Foundation explores and investigates the ways different peoples live, behave and the programme conveys the excitement and relevance of the discipline to students by providing an understanding of racial, ethnic, linguistic and cultural differences which are encountered daily in the second decade of the 21st century.

The key underlying aspect of the course is to encourage sensitivity to social and cultural contexts and to challenge ethnocentrism. By learning about other cultures students will gain an understanding of their own culture and a passion for the study and science of humanity.

Learning outcomes

For the professional and those interested in leadership roles or working in a multicultural setting the programme will provide a useful lens with which to view behaviour. Today’s anthropologists do not just work in exotic areas, they work in practically every setting and environment imaginable. They can be found in large cooperation, museums, diversity training, educational institutions, media, film and non profits organisations.

They work in disaster areas such as the Pacific Coast of Tohuku, the aftermath of hurricane Katrina or the 2011 Norway attacks. We are all affected by our cultural backgrounds, prejudices and experiences and the programme will provide a useful model for equality, compassion, open dialogue and understanding. The programme will provide an opportunity for personalised learning without restrictions from an over-prescriptive curriculum or assessment.

Among the questions raised during the course are:

  • What do we as human share and what makes us different?

  • How can we develop diversity skills?
  • What skills and characteristis can you bring to the study of diversity?
  • The course comprises of four modules, with four written assignments to be completed. The final examination is in distance learning format and is to be completed over a four week period.
