Steel is the most important material for structural applications, where the demands on material and production processes increase continuously concerning properties, costs and eco-friendliness. The course provides in-depth knowledge and understanding of modern design methods for advanced steel concepts. Its particular focus is on industrial R&D practices and on modern manufacturing processes.

Its particular focus is on industrial research and development practices and modern manufacturing processes.
The RWTH International Academy, the International Office and the Language Center of the RWTH Aachen University work closely together with the IEHK, the Department of Ferrous Metallurgy to offer a perfect mix of technical study and cultural experience. The programme is based on the following three pillars:
Students will attend lectures and laboratory courses (20 hours per week) conducted by the IEHK, the Department of Ferrous Metallurgy. Topics covered include Deformation and Strengthening Mechanisms, Corrosion, High-Temperature Steels, Production of Steel Products, Metallurgy, Metallography and Heat and Thermomechanical Treatment.
Participants also have the chance to explore the whole process of steel manufacturing at one of the world’s biggest integrated metallurgical plants, the ThyssenKrupp plant in Duisburg. The company, situated along the Rhine River, supplies materials, processed according to customer specifications, to subsidiaries and steel-using sectors, including automotive, shipbuilding, energy, construction, packaging and electrical appliance industries.
The Language Centre of the RWTH Aachen University provides an intensive German language course of 8 hours per week. The experienced German teachers take great care of the international students and convey not only German language skills but also a sense of German culture.

On the city's doorsteps, the hilly Eifel landscape with its rivers, lakes and forests offers a picturesque countryside.
Its historic centre around the distinctive cathedral, which is a UNESCO world heritage site, is characterized by the student lifestyle. In the old quarters of town and their pubs, restaurants and shops, one can literally touch European history. The great number of students makes student life in Aachen vibrant and unique. At the famous Pontstraße in the main campus area, one finds a “gastronomy strip” with restaurants and cafés that is favoured by students when they go out or get a bite to eat at lunchtime. Whether one prefers Thai cuisine, Sushi or Turkish food, the choice of restaurants is numerous. Most places offer plenty of food for little money, meeting the needs of students.
At the end of the programme, participants will receive an official certificate from RWTH Aachen University stating the contents of the course and their performance, where applicable. ECTS credits can be gained. Detailed information is available on request.
