Location of Humboldt University Berlin

The ZIBI Summer School mainly addresses international and German postgraduate students of biosciences or medicine. The Summer School is split into three parts:

- a one week lecture course with lectures by our local scientists

- an international symposium “Global Challenges of Chronic Tropical Infections

- a practical course

The lecture course focuses on general and special topics of infection biology and immunology with demonstrations of the current scientific techniques. Each day of the lecture course focuses on one topic, like immunology, bacterial-, viral- and parasitic infections. It starts with an introduction into the subject followed by presentations about current research topics. One emphasis of the lecture course is on the discussion and scientific debate.

The scientific symposium on "Global Challenges on Chronic Tropical Infections" will bring together all participants with the local ZIBI faculty and international guest speakers.

The ZIBI Summer School will finish with 3 days of practical courses. The scholars will have the possibility to choose one of the courses offered by the local research groups thus being introduced to their research and to the institutes of the ZIBI.

The ZIBI Summer School is supported by the DAAD with scholarships for 16 students. A scholarship covers the travel to Berlin, accomodation and the participation of the complete Summer School. The practical courses are offered exclusively for the 16 scholars, registration to the lecture courses and the symposium is possible for every student/postdoc/researcher,.... who is interested.

The Summer School 2012 will take place from June 9th until June 23rd.

Contents

In 2012, the ZIBI Summer School will be split up in three parts. First we offer a one week lecture course which will consist of lectures by our local scientists. General topics of infection biology and immunology will be introduced with this lecture series. This first week will also include some "special topics" and demonstrations. The demonstrations will be reserved to the ZIBI scholars. For the one-week lecture course alone we don't have any scholarships but you can register to participate on own financing.

The second part of the Summer School is a Scientific Symposium which will take place in the second week. The symposium is part of the Summer School but will also be open for further participants who have to register.

The ZIBI Summer School will finish with practical courses (third part of the Summer School) which are offered exclusively for the 16 scholars. They will have the possibility to choose one of the courses offered by the local research groups thus being introduced to their research and to the institutes of the ZIBI. Details are also announced in the program.

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.
