Comments on teaching

Reception of the students: The first day of the course, the students are given an orientation as to how the course is arranged. In addition, orientation is given of the essential points regarding the department's work plan, times of formal teaching, information regarding student participation in on-call duty, cafeteria conditions, on-duty quarters, and so on.

The students are then shown around the department and a reasonable orientation is given on the geography of the hospital. Students take part in the daily work of the department (rounds, outpatient clinics, case-report writing). Students take part in on-call duty. In addition they take part in the formalised teaching by the department's clinical lecturers or clinical teachers. By self-study, students are expected to increase their theoretical knowledge of the patients they see on rounds and on those they do case-reports, and they are expected to have prepared themselves for work in the outpatient clinics they expect to participate in and for the formalised group teaching

Gynaecology and Obstetrics
Comments on teaching

Obligatory clinical attachment. Here students are part of various treatment teams. Because students can only take independent responsibility for a few functions, their participation will often be as reflecting observers. Great importance, however, is placed on teaching of and performance of practical procedures, as noted in the description of teaching objectives. Groups are taught 1 to 2 hours daily by lecturers and clinical teachers.

This involves theoretical teaching, phantom exercises, case-based teaching, etc. Additionally, a number of obligatory on-duty watches are included, in which the students follow the midwife on the labour ward or the on-call doctor. Optimal benefit of the time spent on the clinical ward requires 1 to 2 hours of daily self-study. In this connection reference is made to the recommended textbooks and the department's clinical guidelines, which are available on the Internet.
