Maastricht, birthplace of the European Union and situated on the border of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, is a picture perfect European town, with layers of history waiting to be discovered in its medieval city centre. Students fall in love with Maastricht’s vibrant local culture and enjoy the many art and music festivals that take place throughout the summer. Centrally located in the heart of Europe, the Summer Programme in European Studies is an ideal way for students to experience Europe inside and outside the classroom.

Travel both with CES and on your own!Experiencing Europe is a big part of the programme. During your introduction we will travel to Amsterdam, the beautiful and cosmopolitan capital of the Netherlands. With classes four days a week, there are plenty of three-day weekends to explore Europe on your own. Take a short train ride to Brussels, Amsterdam, London or Paris. Contents

The Summer Programme in European Studies lasts 6 weeks. It starts on 29 June and ends on 10 August.

Courses with European or international themesMost courses in the SES programme focus primarily on the economic, political and socio-cultural aspects of Europe; others approach topics from a wider international perspective. Classes can include field trips, museum visits and seminars on location. Discuss the current issues facing the European Union in your Law and Politics class or listen to your Dutch Art History lecture while examining actual artwork in the museum.

The SES programme is divided into two ‘block periods’ of three weeks each. Students take one course per period for a total of two courses. Each course is worth 6 ECTS, the equivalent of a full semester course (3 American credit hours or 1 ‘university’ credit), although the exact number of US credits depends on arrangements with your home university. Classes have a maximum of 15 students - though many classes are smaller- giving you easy, personal contact with the professor and fellow students.

Field tripsVisit Eurocontrol, the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation, during your ICC class to see how Intercultural Communication plays a role in air traffic control. Or visit a beautiful art museum in modern Rotterdam with your Dutch Art History class. Each year, our teachers try to make the courses as interactive and interesting as possible, inside and outside the classroom!

You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test if you come from a non-English speaking country.

Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
