Capita Selecta (‘special subjects’ in English) refers to a selection of topics related to the same theme. This course focuses on the theme of sustainability, a theme that has been on everyone’s agenda for the past decades but still remains open to different interpretations. A theme on which many discussions, often very intense, still take place today.
The course kicks off with a series of lectures offering various perspectives on sustainability, in areas like sustainable economics, architecture, politics, business, landscaping, tourism. Guest speakers professionally involved in these themes will provide students with a broad introduction of all the challenges and opportunities they have faced in the past and are still facing today.
The lectures will then challenge students to discuss the implications of these perspectives, with the guest speakers but also with each other. Assignments will structure the discussions taking place, offering students an opportunity to share within an international classroom their own experiences, how their own cultural background influences their own approach of sustainability, and how theoretical notions can be put into practice.
Studyload: Approximately 65 contact hours.
You are normally required to take an English Proficiency Test.
Most European Universities recognise the IELTS test.
Take testTarget Group: The programme is designed for students coming from countries within or outside of Europe. The course has a theoretical focus with a strong practical orientation towards applying the theories presented and discussed.
Students must realize that all participants bring their own cultural notions of sustainability to class. They must be willing to sharing their own thoughts on the topics discussed, and have an open mind to the implications of discussions in an international classroom.
