Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore introduces for the first time for Summer 2011 the combined Italian Language and Culture and Business programs for students wanting to make the most of a summer program in Italy.
The Italian Language and Business program is 6 weeks from June 9 to July 22 and is structured as follows:
June 13 - June 24 : 2 weeks of intensive Italian Language, 40 hours. Students will be required to arrive on June 8 and participate in the orientation and Italian language placement test on June 9.

The Business component of the program is the 4 week Experiencing Italian Excellent, from June 27 until July 22.

Two levels are offered, beginner and lower-intermediate.
ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS SUMMER
DESCRIPTION: The aim of this course is to present the basis of spoken and written Italian. During the course the students will learn how to communicate in simple everyday situations and will also get in touch with some relevant Italian cultural features. The course is focused on communication: a pragmatic approach will be used, grammar and other theoretical aspects of the language will be discovered step by step together with the instructor. Students will also practice a lot of phonetics in order to learn how to read, write and spell properly the Italian language sounds.
LOWER INTERMEDIATE I SUMMER
DESCRIPTION: The aim of this course is to help students in acquiring new structures of the Italian grammar, to give them a quite wide and stable vocabulary and to introduce them to some classical topics of the Italian culture. The students, that already have a basic knowledge of the Italian grammar, are asked to actively participate to the lessons, to elaborate the content of the lessons through homework, field researches and group work.
The course is focused on communication: a pragmatic approach will be used, grammar and other theoretical aspects of the language will be discovered step by step together with the instructor. The students work equally on written and oral comprehension and on written and oral production. Students will also be asked to work in groups on a presentation about a cultural aspect of Italian life they choose; This will count as their final oral exam.
Requirements
Admission Requirements:
- · Current enrollment at an institution of higher education
- · Good academic standing
- · Grade Point Average of 3.00 or higher, or equivalent
- · Completion of a minimum of 2 terms at undergraduate level
Students requesting admission to the Business or the Italian Language and Business Programs who are non-native speakers of English must submit a min. TOEFL score of 80 iBT or an IELTS score of 6.
Students requesting admission to the Italian Language and Culture or the Italian Language and Business Programs must take an online language proficiency test before arrival. Applicants will be given instructions upon admission on how to proceed with the online testing.
