Croatia is an ex-Yugoslav country in the south of Europe. It declared its independency from Yugoslavia in 1991 and in July 2013 will become member of the EU. It has Zagreb as a capital and the Kuna (HRK) as currency.

It has a beutiful and famous coast at the Adriatic Sea, which is one of the most popular European tourist destinations.

According to the 2001 census this is how the population is distributed: Croat 89.6%, Serb 4.5%, other 5.9% (including Bosniak, Hungarian, Slovene, Czech, and Roma) and the language: Croatian (official) 96.1%, Serbian 1%, other and undesignated (including Italian, Hungarian, Czech, Slovak, and German) 2.9%. Most of the population is Roman catholic. The health expenditure is 7.8% and the education one 4.6% of the GDP as recorded in 2009.

Altough is has suffered from the 1991-1995 war, Croatia is one of the wealthyest former Yugoslav countries. As a destination, it is more expensive in summer than it is from September to May.
